To Belong

Another sunny, beautiful and glorious day!

This morning I was in the basement turning on the outside water faucets which had been drained for the winter. While in the storage closet I found my Rutgers acceptance letter!  I don’t know what made me look in that old box, but the letter was right on top RUTGERS, THE STATE UNIVERSITY OF NEW JERSEY, Certificate of Admissions.   Made out to Barbara A. Senftinger.  “Typed” on a typewriter! I’m dating myself!

Peter is currently at Rutgers and my younger son, Richard, was admitted and will be attending in the fall. While we wanted to leave the options open for him, it was Richard’s first and only choice. His acceptance package remains on the kitchen table. This brings to mind the movie The Blind Side and why Michael chose Ole Miss.  “Because that’s where my family went to school.” For me that statement reinforced that important feeling of family and belonging.  Knowing that you are greater together than separate and unconditionally loved.

I’m grateful for being able to feel all those things and am eternally hopeful that others can learn to feel it too.

By the way, My husband and I were the first ones in our immediate families to go to college.  Both of us went to Rutgers. We never know what kind of impact one person can make for generations to come! You gotta start somewhere!

Happy Spring and Happy Easter!
