Control Your Happiness

“Notice that the moment you become unhappy is usually the moment you attempt to control another person.”

I have been reading The Little Book of Letting Go by Hugh Prather. I have found the above quote to be a significant one for me. Since reading the book I have tried to bring my awareness to the moments I became frustrated, irritated or unhappy.

It was an amazing realization to see that the basis of my upset, in all cases, was my need to control a situation or person and not being able to do so. I don’t consider myself a “controlling” person, however, this loss of control created unhappiness and conflict from within.  Recognizing the cause of my upset allowed me to consciously find another solution, relinquish control and let go of the results. Peace at last!

There are many valuable ”take aways” from The Little Book of Letting Go and I highly recommend it.
